A builder we work with in Frederickson puts it best: "I don't want the lot cleared, I want it cleared right." Scrape everything and you lose the two cedars that would have sold the house. Keep the wrong fir and it drops a limb through the framing in October. Selective clearing is a judgment call, tree by tree, and it's a call we make well.
We clear residential lots for new construction, ADUs and shops, cut view corridors on county acreage, mulch overgrown brush and blackberry that has eaten a fence line, and open up driveways and building pads. Small and mid-size parcels are the sweet spot: an acre of alder and scrub, a wooded corner lot, the back half of five acres in Graham. Stumps get ground or pulled depending on what's going on top of them.
Erosion and drainage get thought about before the first cut, not after. On slopes we leave root systems in place where possible and stage the debris so bare soil isn't sitting exposed through a wet month. If your parcel touches a critical area, wetland buffer or steep slope designation, our arborist paperwork keeps the county happy.
Clearing a lot this year? Get us out early, before design lock. Ten minutes of walking the parcel together often saves a keeper tree and a few thousand dollars.
